Padrón

Located in Spain's northwestern region known as Galicia, these chile peppers originate from the village of Padrón. These short and elongated chile pods are almost always harvested and eaten while green and unripe. These chilies are a staple in Spanish tapas and often prepared by being brazed in olive oil and sprinkled with salt. Padróns are famous in that while they are almost always very mild, but every once in a while you will find one that can be face numbingly warm. Just about every chile pepper source refers to this as the chile pepper version of Russian Roulette. Padrón chile peppers look and taste almost exactly like the more well known Shishito out of Japan.
